Jump Gate Network

Jump Gate Network (JGN)

The Jump Gate Network connects key Malin Galaxy star systems. It is a FTL backbone connecting fixed nodes in space. The gates themselves were fabricated from the remnants of salvaged Generation Ships used by the First Colonists.

The Gates are positioned near the heliopause of each star system, chosen for their proximity to habitable or resource-rich planets. They orbit their stars with glacial precision, taking hundreds of Galaxy Standard Years to make a full rotation. Each Gate’s transit is timed against a nearby pulsar, thus the galaxy stays in sync as ships slip through at faster-than-light speeds.

Overseeing this cosmic freeway is the Jump Gate Authority (JGA), a politically neutral organization organized for a singular purpose: maintaining the Jump Gate Network’s efficient operation and service. The Jump Gate Authority collects transit fees, handles maintenance and repairs, and ensures the Gate System runs uninterrupted.

The Jump Gates connect star systems via fixed node routing. Transit through a Jump Gate is instantaneous, travel from one system to the next taking no noticeable time. As opposed to in-system transit which is dependent on ship specific drive design, normally less-than-faster-than-light.

Note: Due to fabrication requirements, there is no unifying visual design between Jump Gates. Though all are surrounded by a characteristic debris shroud of dust and small particles attracted by the immense electromagnetic fields produced by the phenomenon known as Gate Transit Energy Release.
